Sunset Voyage for Egmont & History
Written by Take MAR
On Saturday, March 22nd, Take MAR, in collaboration with the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum, hosted an unforgettable evening aboard our Sunset Voyage for Egmont & History. This special benefit cruise was dedicated to supporting the vital restoration efforts of the Egmont Key Alliance and the Gulf Beaches Historical Museum. The voyage provided a unique opportunity to learn about our region’s rich history and delicate ecosystems while enjoying the beautiful Gulf waters at sunset.
A Night of Connection, Conservation, and Celebration
Beyond the stunning views, this voyage was about the stories, the shared passion, and the commitment to preserving Egmont Key. We were honored to hear from three inspiring guest speakers: Matthew Bane, a member of the Egmont Key Alliance board, Richard Sanchez, author of Egmont Key – Stories from Eyewitnesses to History, and Tara Hubbard, Chair of the Egmont Key Alliance board and Co-Founder of Take MAR. They shared fascinating historical insights about Pass-a-Grille, Egmont Key, and the importance of conservation efforts in the region.
A key highlight of the evening was the discussion about the future of Egmont Key. Attendees shared their passion for the island’s well-being, expressing deep concern and dedication to its preservation. These discussions helped deepen the understanding of the island’s historical significance and underscored the need for continued conservation efforts to protect this treasured site from the impacts of erosion, hurricanes, and rising sea levels.
The evening also served as a celebration of community and shared purpose. Guests mingled, laughed, and formed new connections while enjoying the breathtaking sunset. In addition, attendees took part in a raffle fundraiser, winning exciting prizes while directly supporting the restoration efforts of Egmont Key. It was a perfect mix of fun, education, and meaningful impact.
