phase 2 Native Tree Planting at the Lower Green Swamp Nature Preserve

On Sunday, February 23, the TakeMAR team and a dedicated group of volunteers returned to the Lower Green Swamp Nature Preserve to continue our restoration efforts! Nestled within a vital wildlife corridor in Central Florida, this preserve is home to a diverse mosaic of wetlands, streams, and upland habitats that support countless species of native plants and wildlife.

For Phase 2 of our restoration efforts (read about what we did for Phase 1 here!), we planted 43 native longleaf pine trees—an important step toward re-establishing a healthier, more resilient pine flatwoods ecosystem. By planting these native trees, we are rebuilding critical wildlife habitat for species that depend on pine flatwoods, improving water conditions by supporting the natural hydrology of the region, and strengthening the local landscape across Hillsborough, Pasco, and Polk Counties.

why this work matters

Restoration isn’t just about planting trees—it’s about ensuring that future generations inherit thriving, biodiverse landscapes. The Lower Green Swamp Nature Preserve plays a crucial role in providing clean air, clean water, and refuge for wildlife in an increasingly developed world. Each effort we make today helps secure a more sustainable and balanced tomorrow.  We’re proud to contribute to the long-term health of this incredible preserve.

the power of community action

This event wouldn’t have been possible without our amazing volunteers! From digging and planting to learning about the local ecosystem, each person played a key role in helping our environment thrive. A very special thank you to the Muslim Volunteer Program, whose teamwork and dedication made a huge impact, and to Path Water for keeping our volunteers hydrated with reusable water bottles. Your passion and commitment inspire us! 💚

Missed this event? Don’t worry! We have many exciting opportunities on the horizon, and we’d love for you to join us.

Stay tuned for updates on future events, or consider supporting Take MAR’s initiatives by volunteering, donating, or spreading the word about our work.
