Making Waves for a Cleaner Ocean: Take MAR’s World Ocean Day Clean Up!
This past weekend, Take MAR had the pleasure of hosting a World Ocean Day cleanup event at the beautiful Madeira Beach. We were thrilled by the incredible turnout, which included many new volunteers as well as familiar faces from our dedicated community.
Together, our amazing volunteers collected a total of 44 pounds of trash from the beach. Our efforts didn't stop there; In addition to picking up litter, we focused on flattening the beach to help sea turtles. We covered up holes and knocked down mounds of sand to create a smooth path for sea turtle hatchlings, ensuring they can safely make their way to the sea.
This aspect of our cleanup is crucial, as obstacles like holes and sand mounds can trap or misdirect hatchlings, making their journey to the ocean perilous. By ensuring a flat and clear beach, we provide these vulnerable creatures with the best chance for survival as they embark on their life in the sea.
We were joined by the presence of internet influencer Trash Caulin, known for his inspiring videos on beach cleanups and environmental awareness. His participation brought additional energy and attention to our cause, and it was an honor to work alongside him.
The day was not only productive but also beautiful, with perfect weather and a wonderful sense of community. Seeing everyone come together for a common goal was truly inspiring.
At Take MAR, our mission is to connect people with nature so that they want to continue to preserve it with us. This was our first beach cleanup, and we are excited to plan many more in the near future. Keep your eyes out in our upcoming events!
Thank you to everyone who participated and supported this event. Your dedication and hard work made a significant impact on our local environment and helped raise awareness about the importance of protecting our oceans and marine life. We look forward to seeing you at our next event!
