Hello, Summer!
Summer is here and we are excited to share what we have been up to!
We had a successful summer camp experience with MISS (Minorities in Shark Science). Take MAR was able to facilitate a day immersed in nature exploring our local islands. The 20 students were able to head out on a boat, snorkel (some for the first time ever!), explore surrounding islands, learn how to take land surveys, and learn how to fish and learn how to sample and tag sharks for research. This group of teenagers had a week-long STEM based summer camp. On their last day, they presented their scientific research project, and some included:
“The Ocean Beyond Meat” - a scientific study to see if fish bait was more successful utilizing real meat or beyond meat (a meat substitute made from soy beans).
“Man-grove or Man-made” - a scientific study to determine whether a mangrove and a man-made (car tire) artificial reef attracted more biodiversity.
“ The American White Ibis” - an observational study to explore bird behaviors in different locations.
and more! If you are interested in supporting more camps and students to explore their intricate connection with our natural world, and education you can make a donation here.
We also just launched our Summer Gear with We are Nature as our messaging! Please help support our organization efforts by purchasing some of our outerwear here.
and… Drumroll please…
We are gearing ourselves up for Phase 2 of Native Tree Planting along the Pinellas Trail! We cant share all the details yet, but stay tuned for how you can help, volunteer, and sign up to plant a tree during our Planting Day!
