Earth Day 2023

Every year on April 22, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970.

Earth Day is an annual celebration that honors the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations.[1]

Earth day is also an opportunity to celebrate the many ways that people around the world are working towards a greener, more sustainable future. Earth Day is celebrated in more than 193 countries every year. It began as a grassroots effort and has grown into a global movement with millions of participants.

The first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970. It was a nationwide event that encouraged people to demonstrate their support for environmental protection, and it set the stage for future generations of activists. As in 1970, Earth Day 2010 set a major milestone as it came at a time of great challenge for the environmental community to combat climate change deniers, oil lobbyists, reticent politicians, a disinterested public, and a divided environmental community.

In the face of these challenges, Earth Day prevailed and earthday.org reestablished Earth Day as a major moment for global action for the environment. Over the decades, earthday.org has brought hundreds of millions of people into the environmental movement, creating opportunities for civic engagement and volunteerism in 193 countries.  Earth Day engages more than 1 billion people every year and has become a major stepping stone along the pathway of engagement around the protection of the planet.

Every year earthday.org shares the theme of the year, and for 2023 the theme is “Invest in our planet.”

Every day is earth day for us here at Take MAR. We love our planet and want to see it thrive. On this special day of celebration, Take MAR went on a sunset cruise fundraiser to connect our community to the beauty of nature- and to fall back (or more!) in love with nature- so that, together, we can regenerate and protect our planet.

Check out the pictures of the sunset cruise and thank you to everyone that joined us!

Our Sunset cruise was sponsored by Hubbard’s Marina (https://www.hubbardsmarina.com/) , as well as  other amazing businesses that donated to our raffles!
