Trees, Treats, and Togetherness: Our Planting Adventure at Jorgenson Lake

Last Saturday, June 22nd, Take MAR (More Action for Regeneration) held a fantastic tree planting event at Jorgenson Lake in St. Petersburg. We couldn't be more thrilled with the turnout and results, thanks to all the hard-working volunteers who came out to help!

Eager Volunteers and Familiar Faces

The event kicked off bright and early with a group of enthusiastic volunteers, including many returning faces who brought along friends to join in on the planting fun! Their energy and dedication were truly inspiring as we worked together to enhance the beauty and biodiversity around Jorgenson Lake.

Planting for Biodiversity

Our team planted seven oak and holly trees, plus nearly 70 native wildflower and pollinator plants around the lake. Among the trees were Holly trees, which will provide berries for the local bird population. Our goal was to maintain the stunning lake view for the neighborhood while introducing more biodiversity and beneficial plants for the wildlife as well. The addition of these native plants is a vital step in supporting our local ecosystem and promoting a healthier environment.

Community Support and Delicious Treats

We were delighted to have Tasty Treats Cafe donate coffee to keep our volunteers energized throughout the morning! After all the hard work, everyone also enjoyed free ice cream scoops from Bright Ice as a well-deserved treat! The support from local businesses was incredible, and it added such a special touch to the event. Everyone who attended was more than excited to hear about the perks!

Engaging with the Community

One of the highlights of the day was the interaction with the neighbors. Many stopped by to thank us and ask questions about the plants and our mission. It was truly wonderful to see the community come together and show such appreciation for our efforts!

Special Shout-outs:

We wanted to extend an extra thank you to Kyle Bolvin and the City of St. Petersburg for aiding in the preparation, security and delivery of the materials. We would also like to thank Darla Ostensen, President of Wildly Inspired Landscape and Design for setting up and overseeing the installation of the Florida Native Wildflower and Pollinator Bed. Lastly, thank you to Lisa Alfino for her donation of Dotted Horsemint and Purple Coneflower plants!

A Fun and Successful Event

Overall, the tree planting event at Jorgenson Lake was a tremendous success. We achieved our goal of enhancing the area's natural beauty while creating a more diverse and beneficial habitat for local wildlife. The enthusiasm and hard work of our volunteers, combined with the generous support from local businesses, made it a memorable and impactful day.

We are grateful to everyone who participated and supported the event. Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved with Take MAR and continue making a positive difference in our community!
