Take MAR Celebrates Florida Arbor Day
Florida Arbor Day is a special day dedicated to the celebration and appreciation of trees in the state of Florida. Traditionally observed on the third Friday of January each year, Florida Arbor Day encourages individuals and communities to come together to plant and care for trees. The day serves as a reminder of the vital role that trees play in maintaining a healthy environment, providing shade, and supporting biodiversity.
This year Florida Arbor Day was on January 19th, and Take MAR celebrated on January 20th by planting trees in two different locations!
If you have been with us since the beginning, we planted 150 native trees on the Pinellas Trail for our Phase one of native tree plantings on the trail. In Phase two we planted 95 trees! During our Phase one, five trees did not survive, so for Florida Arbor Day the City of St. Petersburg donated four trees, 2 South Florida Slash Pines, and two Gumbo Limbos. Take MAR purchased one South Florida Slash Pine to replant in Phase 2.
We had an amazing group of volunteers come out and be a part of our planting workshop. Our team was able to demonstrate how to properly plant these trees, and then together, everyone planted the remaining trees.
From there, everyone headed over to Deuces Food Forest to plant 7 trees! Take MAR planted 1 Jabuticaba, 1 Atamoya, 1 Sapodilla, 1 Jackfruit, 1 Lychee, 1 Carambola, and 1 Longan tree.
We are so grateful to everyone that came out, and all of our supporters that take action so that we can all continue planting trees!
